listencorp's next video essay takes us through the world of the Playstation 2 via the lens of BAKGROUND's masterpiece: Memory Card.
Thousands and thousands of games were at the fingertips of those who bought Sony's sequel console. It revolutionised gaming and also influenced other forms of media too, especially music.
Many modern artists will have discovered types of music through their hours playing the Playstation 2, and we can see this in the proliferation of certain genres. What isn't explored as much, however, is the general aura of the Playstation 2, epitomised in its menu screen.
But Memory Card provides listeners with this experience, an ambient journey through the dark regions of the Playstation 2's start-up screen and beyond. An album that toys with feelings of liminality, identity and technology, Memory Card is an incredible experience.
